Scorpions come out on top

The Danville Scorpion 8A lacrosse team finished the regular season undefeated and ranked No. 1 going into the Northern California Junior Lacrosse Association Final Four Championship held June 1 at San Jose's Spartan Stadium. The Scorpions defeated the Town School Tigers 15 to 5 in first round playoffs on May 18 at Lamorinda/OIS. Playing the Lamorinda Shock in the semifinal match, a determined Scorpion team came out fast with three goals in the first quarter defeating the Shock 12-5. Kevin Kuptz scored four goals with Jack McCormick, Michael Tagliaferri and Zack Kline contributing two goals each. Sean O'Dea, playing long pole midfield, scored one goal and picked up four ground balls.

The Scorpions faced Walnut Creek for the championship. A crowd of over 100 parents and friends watched as the Scorpions won 13-2 to earn the 2008 NCJLA Division Championship title. Michael Tagliaferri led the Scorpions scoring five goals and contributing four assists. Jack McCormick fired in four goals with Kevin Kuptz, Zack Kline and Travis Turley adding one goal each. Rounding out the Scorpion "Team of 17" playing as one were Sam Langon, Connor Lancaster, Patrick Worstell, Kane Franklin, Joe Abajian, Kevin Braunschweig, Blake Weltz, Sean O'Dea, Jordon Weiss, Owen Euser, Matt Corbin and Ian Lawton.

Head coach Peter Worstell was honored during the closing ceremonies for coaching Scorpion teams to four consecutive NCJLA championships; staff members were Bob OMeara, Joe Lawton and John Tagliaferri.
