Danville Shooting
Crimes & Incidents, posted by Concerned, a resident of the Danville neighborhood, on Apr 28, 2009 at 7:52 pm

Does anyone know if the 15 year old boy in custody for shooting Rylan Fuchs was ever charged? It's been just over 3 months now and yet there have been no updates that I heard from either the Danville Police or in the news!

I am sorry, but there has been no additional information given out regarding the Rylan Fuchs case. The Contra Costa Sheriff's Office is handling the investigation. I contact them every two weeks to see if there is any update and they have none, other than that the investigation is continuing. It is frustrating for us as well. As soon as we have any further information we'll certainly get it out to you.

At the time of the crime we were told by Chief Wenzel that he had 10 investigators working around the clock, how did we get from there to having the Sheriff's Office make excuses for taking 3 months plus? Been no reporting re: the the Halfway House, it's clients and management, its reputation, its current status, etc. Been no reporting as to how the accused entered and attended our schools, his record at the schools, his reason for dismissal, etc.

Whatever happened to responsible investigative reporting?

I understand that people's emotions are high regarding this story. However, no charges have been filed against the juvenile in question. Thus, it would not be responsible of us to reveal his name or go into detail about his school records or life in a group home (not a halfway house).

Chief Wenzel did state that they had 10 investigators working around the clock. However, since Danville police are all technically Contra Costa Sheriff's Deputies, the bulk of the investigation would fall on the Sheriff's investigative unit. As I stated earlier I do not know why there has been no forward momentum on the case or why no charges have been filed against the juvenile in question.

That group home better be gone by fall semester.

I will not have our children endangered by thugs from the inner city. God bless Rylan.

Geoff, strikes me that there are proper questions that can be asked of the investigators by a reporter interested in informing Danville residents,e.g., what is the status of the investigation, why is it taking so long, why has the County taken over the case from the Danville police, have the Danville police had complaints re:the Group Home, how many group homes are located in Danville, are they licensed and managed by the State, who accounts for the behavior of the residents, are neighbors/residents entitled to know of there whereabouts, etc. You say asking these questions is irresponsible, I say it is responsible journalism!

I completely agree with the above by Fuch's Neighbor, a murder was committed in our community and the people who live in it would like some info.,as would Rylan's friends, hopefully his family isn't having to suffer with no news.
