Comments on Stories, posted by Editor, Danville Weekly Online, on Jan 14, 2013 at 9:50 am

In this week's [Web Link Simply Sterling], Linda Stolow Sterling discusses a long time resolution to "pick up as much litter as I can and make my world a cleaner place." By taking an active role in making the community a cleaner place, Stolow Sterling said she encourages her children and friends to do the same.

Yes, I do the same thing when I am out running every day. If there is a litter on the street--cans, papers, fast food bags--I stop and pick it and toss it in a trash can.

I'm with ya Mike....I run along the Iron Horse Trail regularly and park in the Lunardi's lot. I also make it a point to pick up pieces of litter whenever I see them just to "do my part" in making Danville a great place to live. Every time I do I am reminded of the phrase "part of your character is defined by what you do when nobody is looking". On my run last Saturday morning I saw a guy wearinbg a red baseball cap walking the trail with a plastic bag and one of those "picker uppers" with a long handle cleaning up the litter as he walked the trail. Lastly, I have noticed a BIG improvement in the number of dogwalkers that responsibly pick up their dog waste along the trail. Years ago on hot summer days it really reeked and it has improved significantly, thank you dog owners !!

I too walk in the mornings and pick up trash. After living in the middle east for a number of years, I became very alert to plastic in particular. It will enter our watershed and eventually the ocean, so I try to do my part! Thanks to all who are also participating in this effort
