New bike racks debut downtown
Comments on Stories, posted by Editor, Danville Weekly Online, on Oct 31, 2012 at 11:36 am

Cyclists stopping in Danville during a long ride, coming downtown for events, shopping or great food will now have an easier time finding a place to leave their bikes. Beginning Nov. 1, the town of Danville will install several new bike racks throughout the downtown area.

I wonder if consideration has been given to maintaining sidewalk space for our major Danville street events--July 4th Parade, Street Art fairs, etc..???????

Does anyone know?

I wouldn't be surprised to see a "loss" of space for chairs, standing room, walking room, etc--by these permanent fixtures forever on.

If these parking spots are down "side streets", then they are probably OK.

Having seen the years of "poor" planning done by our professional, highly-paid Danville Planners and politicians, I don't have much confidence that all factors and effects have even been considered.

And why is this the first time that I, as a citizen and resident of Danville, have heard of this plan to include bike parking (not that I'm against the idea in general)?

Why are there no notices and surveys of ALL Danville citizens without our having to go to extreme personal efforts to do something to be informed?

"They" really don't want or care about OUR input and ideas--which is why we end up paying for lots of STUPID results (like all the bulb curbs in downtown and the lack of sufficient handicap parking and senior parking RIGHT AT the senior center/Vet building). (And the lack of full second story on the Senior center.)

(And stupid Left Turning plan and lane markings around the Sycamore & Danville Blvd intersections.)
