Contra Costa County law enforcement feels impact of realignment

More than four months after California transferred responsibility for low-level offenders to counties, law enforcement officials in Contra Costa County are seeing far more inmates than projected. Last year, Gov. Jerry Brown signed Assembly Bills 109 and 117, which shifted the responsibility for monitoring, tracking and imprisoning low-level offenders previously bound for state prison to county jails.

It's time for our new Sheriff to make use of this new inmate power. Organize good old fashion clean up crews.

#1 Not one county vehicle should pay a private concern to wash itself. Inmate car washes save thousands of dollars.

#2 There are so many weeds on the roads. Inmate weed control.

#3 The trash thrown out on our roads is terrible. Public works supervise inmate trash control.
