Town Counsil votes to alter or end Hot Summer Nights
Around Town, posted by Concerned Citizen, a resident of the Danville neighborhood, on Apr 2, 2008 at 2:15 pm

On April 1st, 2008, at the Town Council Meeting, the council recklessly reduced the number of Hot Summer Nights car shows from 4 nights to 2 nights. This is the end of a 13 year legacy that is responsible for bringing 60,000 people to Danville each year. The decision was not made based on personal preference and not economics. Boutique owners complained about having to park 1/4 mile away from their store fronts, while a woman from a bank said she was too scared to leave work (in daylight) because of a crowd gathering is the parking lot and considered calling for a police escort! Give me a break! My family and I only discovered Danville because of Hot Summer Nights. We're always considered it to be a safe and well organized event. In this economy, we can not afford to be turning away potential business. Due to sponsorship and insurance issues, the 4 Hot Summer Nights events might not be able to be condensed into 2 days. The committee has 60 days to come up with a workable plan; otherwise Hot Summer Nights will not happen at all.
