Community Presbyterian Preschool Commemorates 50 years of Providing High Quality Early Childhood Education in the Valley

Danville, CA (August 17, 2011) - On Sept. 25, Community Presbyterian Preschool (CPP) will commemorate 50 years of providing high quality early childhood education. Plans are underway for an ice cream social complete with games, timeline, photo corner, and sing along for current and former students and their families. The planning committee consists of former and current staff members.

“CPP is a special place. In a time when there is so much discussion about the importance of quality early childhood education, a milestone of this nature must be recognized,” said planning committee member Mary Lou Alexander, who was a CPP staff member when the doors first opened and retired just 14 years ago.

Local businesses, including Dreyer’s, Home Depot, Lunardi’s, Yogurt Shack, and Danville Bakery, are donating supplies and food to make the event a success.

“My son worked for Dreyer’s and donated the ice cream 25 years ago for our celebration. It seems only fitting that he has arranged for Dreyer’s to donate it again,” said former CPP director Dorothy Chase.

The committee has been chanting its theme of “2, 4, 6, 8…50 years we celebrate” this summer during its planning sessions.

“I am hoping that this 50th anniversary party will be a joyful gathering of folks who have attended, loved, and supported the preschool. We want to celebrate our school and remember and honor the traditions that have made the school a wonderful place to be for five decades,” said current director Kaaren Slocum.

Former student and current San Jose Earthquakes striker Chris Wondolowski is set to attend the event. Also in attendance will be former San Francisco Giant Randy Winn. His mother, Bev Winn, was the Spanish teacher for CPP for over 25 years.

Teachers and local bakeries will provide cakes for the cake walk game which will be held in the courtyard. A former parent and photographer, Nicole Gee, will manage the photo corner for attendees. Current and former staff, with community volunteers, will manage children’s games and tours of the current classrooms.

“We are asking for RSVPs for the September 25 event so we know how much ice cream to have on hand,” said event organizer and CPP teacher Isabel Lau.

The event will take place from 2:00 – 5:00pm at 222 W. El Pintado Road in Danville, CA. Attendees may call the school at 925-837-3316 or email preschool@cpcdanville.org to RSVP. Details of the event can be found on Community Presbyterian Preschool’s Facebook page.
