Comments on Stories, posted by Editor, Danville Weekly Online, on Aug 21, 2011 at 7:06 pm

Temperatures may be rising but summer is winding down for students in the San Ramon Valley, who officially begin school on Wednesday, Aug. 24. Dear Editor,

What actually happened to summer vacation from school. It is at least a month shorter.

When I was in school in Sonapamendicinoma area, our summers started after second week of June and concluded with the start of school in the third week of September, after the harvest was done. When I went on to college, classes started in later September and were over by the first week in June.

Just who is going to tend to the cows and orchards, we should ask? But most of all, how did 177 days of school simply get to be so long? Did parents make a special pact with schools to get children back in school.

Well, should say, School should be three quarters of 13 weeks with 13 weeks of summer for other stimulus beyond the classroom. A quarter out in the open, free from contrived competition, driven by discovery, and an occasional conversation with a cow.

A quarter of diversity! Is that so much to ask?
