As news service researchers reported to their subscribers, Karen Mitchoff was doing party politics on behalf of Mark DeSaulnier and Susan Bonilla in attempting to control Contra Costa politics and their supporters’ interests in the Concord Naval Weapons station redevelopment. The further intent was to place Supervisors Piepho and Uilkema, as Republicans, in competitive campaigns with candidates chosen by Mark DeSaulnier and party supporters.

News services’ polling shows that this result backfired on Contra Costa Democrats and focused voters against machine politics. Polling among the very-savvy senior professionals of 680 south corridor shows that Gayle Uilkema is considered independent of machine politics and accessable for the will and interests of the region’s majority. Polling among East County communities and neighborhoods illustrates that Mary Piepho could be considered a better choice that any candidate selected by Mark DeSaulnier.

The big losers are Karen Mitchoff and Susan Bonilla. Karen Mitchoff faces a potential recall among the very silent former supporters in Concord and Pleasant Hill. Susan Bonilla will be up for re-election in a new district with high-levels of voter distrust. Even Mark DeSaulnier will face exceptional distrust in his new district that includes the political linkage of communities and neighborhoods in the Tri Valley region.
