Comments on Stories, posted by Editor, Danville Weekly Online, on Feb 8, 2008 at 4:27 pm

The Danville Area Chamber of Commerce plans to stress the "area" part of its name going forward. At the installation dinner last night, the Chamber unveiled its new logo and announced its new Web site: danvilleareachamber.com.

Dear Chamber,

You might consider changing the name to Diablo Vista Regional Chamber.

Dear neighbors,

We all realize that Danville has lost its "center of attention" in our region and most Diablo Vista (Alamo) Region residents see Walnut Creek as our regional center. Similarly, San Ramon is very focused on the Tri-Valley Region and sees its own city and cities to the south as their regional center.

I appreciate the Chamber's outreach but I question if Danville Area is the appropriate name for the chamber. The Danville Area does not actually exist and Diablo Road is a divider between "centers of attention" rather than the center of our regions.

Dear Hal,

Over many years, Danville Area Chamber has considered its roots in Alamo, Diablo, Danville and San Ramon. At the time of the formation of the chamber, there was little other than Walnut Creek, Danville and Pleaanton in our area so Danville Area simply decribed the chamber's overall interests.

Today, we continue to look at the AREA we serve and not just Danville so we create area results without looking at any internal borders. Our next step is to involve the larger companies in our area and corporations that operate retail, commercial and institutional facilities within our area.

From our conversation, I would certainly like to see the Danville Area Chamber reaching out to technology companies to locate here. We invite regional business people to challenge us with their needs.
