Posted by psmacintosh, a resident of the Danville neighborhood, on Feb 8, 2011 at 6:20 pm Wow. That's an eye-opener into how our Government has grown into such an expensive, huge, slush-fund of BIG GOVERNMENT COST. So many give-aways for other countries at our expense. So many lush executive jobs for gov't workers to work to improve other countries at our expense.
I just BROWSED for awhile at Web Link
I discovered an AGENCY named "Middle East Partnership Initiative (MEPI)" which has one program listed as "01/21/2011 Civic Education Middle East Partnership Initiative NEAPI-11-AW-031-MENA-012111".
This one program has $7 million of funding (taxpayer's money) to promote civic education of children and youth (...ages of 15 and 30) across the Middle East and North Africa "to become active and engaged participants in social, political, and economic life."
The MEPI is just one part of the Bureau of Near Eastern Affairs which is one part of the U.S. Department of State. The MEPI has 35 full-time staff and contractors in Washington, D.C., and Coordinators, Administrators, and Foreign Service Officers serving in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region.
And this is one of thousands of such governmental "grant" programs.
This is exactly why "Conservatives" say that Government is too big and too expensive.
Maybe this is a "nice" program by a "nice" agency that does "good" things in the world. But this is not what our American "government" should be involved in--government has extended itself too far and too costly. If American individuals want to "do good" for others, then let them make that private choice. Government should not be exacting taxes from any of us to then spend it on these grand schemes!
