I am deeply sorry for this loss.

My brother in law is over there right now, while my sister is home with their 4 kids. Could someone please help me understand why we have troops in Afghanistan?

SPCWT: In respect to his family, I do not think this is the time or place to debate whether or not we should be in Afghanistan. He was a brave man who served his country, and we owe him our thanks and gratitute, and not questions about why he was there. If you are truly interested in this issue, I would suggest reading President Bush's book, that I just finished reading, called "Decision Points". Whether you agree or disagree with our involvement in Afghanistan, this book outlines why we got involved, and should answer your questions. However, lets not use this particular blog to debate this issue, as the focus should be respect for a brave soldier, and respect and sympathy for this grieving family.

I had the pleasure of serving with Major Mooldyk, as well as working along side him in our civilian careers. For those of you who knew him only casually, may I be the first to say that this was a true American Hero! Evan was among the most patriotic people I have ever met. He lived to serve our country and protect our freedom. My deepest sympathy goes out to his family and loved ones. God Bless America,and God Bless Evan for his services rendered to our nation.

American...I agree with you...a good book. I respect all our Presidents as a matter of course and as a non fiction reading history buff I make it a point to read all their post office memoirs. To the point though...I gather Major Mooldyk succombed to a cardiac situation not hostile fire? The loss is still sad...
