In research of sports as entertainment, there is a different perception. Sports, especially baseball, are considered USAmerican institutions and not just purely entertainment by a small portion of their audience and mostly by USAmerican governments. Clearly, it does seem silly to give a CBS Survivor winner a $million for being a LIAR and put various sports stars in prison for the same result.
One only needs to repeat, "Baseball, Hotdogs and the American Flag" to understand how a core sports culture and our governments view this institution. The fact that sports are broadcasted as entertainment, and are perceived as such by the vast majority, does not change the special circumstances our governments apply to its stars.
It would be my thought that if various players wish to LIE to protect their professional and personal lives, they should become politicians.
