New BART seats mean cleaner ride
Schools & Kids, posted by Editor, Danville Weekly Online, on Aug 25, 2010 at 6:29 am

Fifty-one railcars out of BART's 669-car fleet are being outfitted with new cobalt blue seats, replacing the sagging, dingy cushions from the metal frames. The money is coming from $750,000 in projected surplus funds for train cleaning and seat replacement.

I have a hard time believing that they clean those cars at all. They are horrible!!! I cringe every time I have to ride Bart. I'm glad to hear they are getting new seats after all these years.

Our family travels to many areas in the US, and we use a lot of train rapid transit type transportation. In every one we have ridden in, the trains have comfortable molded plastic seats. They always appear clean. I cannot understand why BART uses fabric.

Why are they replacing them with more fabric? They obviously couldn't keep the previous ones clean...especially around the top where people rest their heads? Nasty! Gel, mousse, hairspray, balms, plus who knows what else.

I use BART and I stand...even when seats are available. Sitting on those BART seats is like going to the doctors office and thumbing through their mag's...Folks NEVER thumb through the Mag's...especially if you visit an oncologist office.

Thanks for Listening, Julia from Alamo
