Eight firefighters with the San Ramon Valley Fire Protection District recently received medals of honor for their work in putting out a fire in a Blackhawk home June 22.

This is comical. Uh, isn't this their job? There are hundreds (if not thousands) of people within the bay area who would LOVE their job, and would be perfectly willing to go into a burning building to save somone. I would.
Also, some get a medal for valor, others for bravery? What's up with that? Did all 8 of them go into the building or what?
So for those readers who AREN'T 'heroes' like these yokels: next time you're brave at "your" job (which is exactly what you're trained to do) make sure you demand a medal for "valor" or "bravery". And also demand that the 'company' you work for (which is the public) pay for the "ceremony" and the Medal of Honor that you receive because you decided to bestow it upon yourself. All on top of your $280K/year salary to fight maybe 10 fires; what's that, about $28K/fire? That's almost as much as the bloated salary of a pro athlete.

They were recognized for doing their job well, not just doing their job. Oscar, just like an Oscar recognizes an actor for, well, acting (and is awarded by that industry) this too was for a great job at their job. I’m sure very few firemen ever receive this medal. It is not about pay, it is about the life they saved. The life of a loved father and husband and skilled local physician. Don’t be so bitter and pathetic. This is rare good news. Be happy about it.

I’m sure that Dr. Lipman doesn’t think these men are overpaid. I guess it depends on your perspective. I’m sure none of them make the amount you state other than the highest levels of management and responsibility. I bet none of these eight guys make more than a skilled electrician or plumber. Regardless, I like that their employer recognizes them for doing a good job. When I go the extra mile my boss doesn’t even say thank you. It seems like the fire department respects its employees and tries to do right by them. That benefits all of us.

Oscar you sound like a guy who maybe failed one too many firefighter tests. Or are you really just the firemen hater that lives near the new Alamo fire station site? If it is you popping up like a mole again simply because the fire department is mentioned in an article, have just a hint of class for a change and leave the Litman family out of your petty, self-serving NIMBY issue.

As the former Director of a Burn Center, who has treated thousands of burn victims, and having taken firefighter training, I cn tell Oscar that there is no amount of mpney, or potential recognition that would entice me to serve as a firefighter. Yes, these men were "just doing their job", but their job involves potentially puttimg their lives and bodies at risk to help others. Not only these men, but all active firefighters are heroes in my book! Firefighting is sometimes described as ninety five per cent boredom, five per cent sheer terror. Being in a burning house sure qualifies for this five per cemt!
Oscar, if you think firefighting is a cushy job, I challenge you to qualify, apply, and serve in this position. I doubt that you would make it, but if so, I am sure your opinion would change the first time you enter a real burning building.

If you've ever been in a situation where you needed the assistance of the fire department, you can appreciate their professionalism. They are well trained. I extend my heartfelt thanks to our local firefighters! Thank you!

Oscar clearly is attention seeking, and is a troubled, bitter person. It is obvious his intentions are to get people upset, so lets not play his game and ignore his negative comments. As I once learned in a child psychology class (considering Oscar has the maturity of a chid) ignore the negative attention seeking behavior, or else it will just escalate.
The important thing to focus on is the article about the firefighters. I can tell you first hand what heroes we have serving our community. My husbands life was saved by them last year, and because of them our family has a future of hope and my children do not have to grow up without a father. The San Ramon Valley Fire Protection District has some of the most advanced training,newest technology and equiptment, and their performance records shine. Despite all of this, they are always striving to improve. We are so fortunate to have these men and women serving our community, true heroes in every sense of the word. I will forever be grateful!

When I see a ladder truck cruising around downtown burning diesel, I get concerned. When I see a ladder truck (90 foot ladder) in a town with no building over 2 stories I get concerned. When I see published salaries of $280K/annum with O/T and a hiring freeze, I get concerned. When I see 6 firemen in a Orchard Supply buying mousetraps, I get concerned. When I see a firetruck in downtown Danville making a u-turn to get to a fire on El Cerro (apparently lost) I get concerned.
I also get concerned when I see Obama playing 39 rounds of golf since taking office and his wife taking a $1M vacation at our expense.
Stop drinking the Kool-Aid folks, you're being played.
And don't bother making fun of my name - it's boorish and SO 2nd grade.

good news all! Just heard that the battalion chief for SRVFD is retiring. The best part is that because he was making $280K / year for his efforts, his pension will provide 100% of that salary until the day he dies!
How's that for taking care of your boys?
Check it out for yourself - any of you getting full salary in your pension? Actually, better yet, any of you even getting a pension?

This is not the appropriate place for your ranting. Take your personal agenda and hate to the Fire Board, MAC, etc. Don't drag the Litmans through your muddy house.
