Just for clarity, is the Danville town mayor only voted for during the Town Council or does it go to a ballot vote (I don't remember whether Mayor was on the ballot). The story above seems to indicate that the mayor is selected during the Town Council. The Danville Rules of Procedure seem to state that "the election or removal of a Mayor or Vice Mayor requires three affirmative votes." Can anyone clarify?

In Danville, voters elect members to the council and the council then annually selects a mayor and a vice mayor. According to Town Attorney Rob Ewing, the council has always treated this as a nomination under Roberts Rules of Order, so it takes three votes to have a majority to elect someone mayor.
The new mayor and vice mayor are installed at the first meeting in December, which is held at the Community Center on Front Street and combined with the presentation of the town's Community Service Awards.
