Congressman Jerry McNerney to attend "Last Hurrah" Event in Honor of Danville Veterans Hall May 1st.
Around Town, posted by Chet, a resident of the Danville neighborhood, on May 1, 2010 at 8:15 am

Danville, CA – Congressman Jerry McNerney (CA-11) announced today that he will attend and speak at the upcoming “Last Hurrah” event, a community gathering that will mark the start of restoration and expansion of the Danville Veterans Memorial Building. The “Last Hurrah” event will be held on Saturday, May 1st from 12:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. with a ceremony taking place at 1:00 p.m. The Veterans Memorial Building is located at 400 Hartz Avenue in Danville.

For the past 85 years, the Veterans Memorial Building has served the Town of Danville and the San Ramon Valley as home to veterans’ organizations as well as meeting space for senior, youth, and civic groups. Earlier this year, Congressman McNerney secured $200,000 in federal funding for the restoration and expansion of the building. The first phase of improvements is scheduled to begin in early May following the “Last Hurrah” event and the project is estimated to be finished in late 2011.

“The Veterans Memorial Building is a symbol of Danville’s commitment to remembering and recognizing our veterans as well as an important community space for local organizations,” said Rep. McNerney. “Restoring and expanding the building will help ensure its use for many future generations. I’m proud to have delivered $200,000 to this project and look forward to seeing the start of work at the Veterans Memorial Building.”

The “Last Hurrah” event will include military vehicle and historical displays, activities for children and the opportunity to record memories about the Veterans Memorial Building.
