Dear neighbors,

I enjoyed Hal’s thanks to The Danville Weekly in honor of Thanksgiving. The Danville Weekly editor and staff have provided an interactive view of the interests and personalities of our region and Alamo in particular. In my nine years as a resident in Alamo, I have always felt that I lived in another community because I could not understand the interests and actions of our more public citizens or the culture of the neighbors that surrounded me. As more and more younger people moved into my Alamo neighborhood, I found more relationships and an easy understanding among growing friendships.

Now with the former culture on the wane and only sprinkled in the neighborhoods, I am enjoying my neighbors and neighborhood events with the easy comfort that is the new majority culture. As I read The Danville Weekly on-line and in print, and review the Town Square Forum, I am finding my experiences explained by the many comments of Alamo neighbors and their neighborhood groups.

In reading the various postings and guest columns of the waning community groups, including their AIM releases, I am beginning to understand this past culture as a culture of group mentality. More personally, I spent time in October in front of Safeway speaking with AIM petition volunteers and experienced the culture. Three very nice ladies attempted to “pat me on the head and educate me” in proper thinking and adherence to their cultural and political viewpoints.

I am thankful for the diversity of thoughts brought forward by The Danville Weekly,
