Raises for District Administrators?
Schools & Kids, posted by Parent in District, a member of the Monte Vista High School community, on Mar 25, 2010 at 12:06 pm

I have recently learned about a provision in the district administrators' contract regarding their pay: every three years they are entitled to a 5% increase with board approval. This means that if the board believes the school district is doing better then the administrators can be offered the 5% increase in their salary. Two district administrators are up for the 5% increase THIS YEAR (call the district and ask who). The question, of course, is will they accept it if the board offers it to them. I have a huge problem with this; why? Because the district is claiming financial problems; because the district is letting go of teachers and gave pink slips to EVERY single counselor in the district (so they can rewrite the contract to increase the counselor-to-student ratio from, in the HS at least, 500:1 to 750:1); because the district is threatening to fire the teachers and rehire them back with a lower pay salary; because the district is threatening to cut more programs for our students. Why is it that the overall % of the budget for district central administrators has INCREASED in the past 5 years and DECREASED for the ones who are dealing with our kids day in day out: the teachers and counselors? What can we do as parents? We can contact the board of education and encourage them to not offer this 5% increase. We can demand that there is equity among all employees. How can anyone say that the district is doing better when it is supposedly in financial doom? Here is the district website with board contact info: Web Link

Dear Dolores,

Simply, this comment is reality and should be subject to board of trustee challenge based on the criteria of salary reduction and layoff in the district.

No HQ administrator should have preferential right to distribution from districts' scare resources.

You are a journalist so please inform our district,

Ralph without ROFL
