A commercial invasion deep in the Hemme neighborhoods, orchestrated by politics and imposed on Alamo by the county and Danville:
"Kathy Chiverton, executive director of the San Ramon Valley YMCA, said approvals are in place for the new 12-acre facility on the Alamo/Danville border, and it should be ready in summer 2009. People are happy to hear it will be a place for teens to gather on Friday and Saturday nights, she said, plus it will create 50 to 200 jobs, from lifeguards to front desk workers, with a $1.3 million yearly payroll. Next on the agenda for the Y: completing and bringing to life the theater on El Cerro Boulevard."
STOP this invasion of Alamo and the ugly gloating by those that engineered it! Contact your neighborhood representative.

Not sure if it's a "strong-arm invasion" but this is what I think. I'm looking forward to the new YMCA facility. I have young children and a teenager so I'm always looking for new class, programs and activities for them. I'm sorry that some Alamo residents aren't happy about the new facility, but I think it's a great thing. Creating new jobs and providing a place for teenagers to go when they could be doing something worse.

Dear Tracy,
As a Diablo resident, you recognize the positives that SRV YMCA should provide at an appropriate location. But I suggest that if your neighborhood was invaded by a retail/hospitality center without the infrastructure to support that center, you would be very much like the Hemme neighborhoods that fully understand they have been strong-armed by the county and Danville to accept the abuse of SRV YMCA.
In the end, the result will be disgusting for YMCA users impacted by formal actions by neighbors. Neighborhoods throughout Alamo must come to the defense of the neighbors against this vulgar invasion and force relocation of the SRV YMCA to an appropriate environment.
