County suggests 'Alamo Boulevard'

Danville Boulevard may be changed to Alamo Boulevard if enough residents give the go-ahead, county officials told the Alamo Community Council at its meeting last Thursday.

Hello Alamo,

After many years on Danville Blvd, the problems have never been its name and a change of the name will not hide the Blvd from usage by too many commuters that still treat our community blvd as a highway.

Let's not be distracted from fixing the Blvd by simply changing its name or other silly solutions such as a roundabout. Let's not invite more use by widening or creating better access to and from 680.

Take measures to stop commuter usage. Changing the name will not stop the blvd from being the Road to Danville and back.

I was reading the Forum commentary and up pops your thoughts, Bob.

To fix the commuter use problem, I suggest we make each end of Danville Blvd a DEAD END in Alamo. A dead end just before Rudgear would not let commuters enter our blvd and a similar dead end at El Portal would stop commuters from entering from the south.

The better option is a toll road for Danville Blvd in Alamo and resident permits that allow free usage. A toll gate at each end would make commuters think about using our community roads and lanes for their commute.

Come on, Alamo,

We have known how to fix this commute traffic for years. Take out Danville Blvd in our shopping center and make north/south access via access lanes in the MALL. The commuters will go away.

OK, let's simply focus on the name.

Alamo will likely have a name change to Diablo Vista CA and therefore the new boulevard should be Diable Vista Boulevard.

Easy, isn't it,

When I was a child in the 1940's, my family use to drive from Berkeley to drive under the canopy of trees on "The Boulevard of Trees." Alamo was truly a rural community then with a few quaint stores, chilled cider and walnut candy.

Today, the Boulevard is becoming part of our more urban environment and a north/south corridor for foreign traffic that has little or nothing to do with Alamo, Danville, trees, or even access to our shopping center.

It is very hard to consider a name for the boulevard since it has become such a negative to the neighborhoods that have their only access via the boulevard. One thing it isn't is Alamo's boulevard.

Neighbors, what are your ideas for the boulevard? I would appreciate hearing from you.

We simply can't say Danville Blvd should change its name. It is, to our misforture, the route to Danville from Walnut Creek.

After reading all the concerned commentary, I agree that Alamo Boulevard cannot exist unless its use is designated for Alamo and not as a commuter corridor. 680 was justified to all of us as the replacement for our boulevard.

Let's take the steps to stop commuter usage. I feel that making the Boulevard go to and from Alamo Plaza, and not through it, is a very simple answer.

Let's not wait, do it now!

Bob
