Two swings stolen from Hap Magee
Crimes & Incidents, posted by Editor, Danville Weekly Online, on May 1, 2009 at 7:19 am

Two swing sets were discovered missing Wednesday morning from Hap Ranch Ranch Park. The swings had apparently been dismantled and removed from the structure, and taken from the park. Signs are posted on the structure, which is in the play area for ages 5 to 12, to inform the public that the swings are "out of order" and parts are on order.

Swingers? In Danville?

I blame Dr. Playboy.

Dear Dolores,

Humorists in Danville? How welcome is that??

I have a theory about the swings. As Alamo region neighborhoods start the process of declining support for SRV YMCA and Hap Magee Park, one or more neighbors have started the process of disassembly of Hap Magee that will eventually lead to a Wal-Mart being built on the property. As we look forward to a high-rise upscale Wal-Mart, as Walton's at the water tower, we all must understand that Hap Magee must be cleared of obstructions including small children without credit cards.

Certainly the water tower will have places for children on the upper floors as Your Memorial Community Association (YMCA) opens its recreation facility in memory of the community of Alamo. The new Byron to Alamo Rapid Transit (BART) center on the seventh floor will welcome passengers from the roller coaster ride over the top of Mt. Diablo.

We have so much fun to look forward to here, don't you think?

As discussions determine whether to have 41 or 42 floors, we realize the entire discussion is "That's another story!"

Oh God, not a Walmart. There goes the neighborhood!

Dear Dolores,

Holly reminded me that we need to tell the rest of the story of "That's another Story!"

Having Walton's as an upscale Wal-Mart will not be all bad. On the bottom floors, we will offer Wally's Wonderful World of Wine and Whine. Basically, we will be inviting the surrounding neighborhoods to become drunk and disorderly.

I wonder how that swings with your readers?

Dear Dolores,

There are e-exchanges circulating that accuses Danville of stealing the swings to put in another location and using insurance to pay for the replacements. That is not funny!

It is hard to imagine what someone would do with the swings if they did not have a park to put them in but it certainly a stretch to think that anyone would steal from one park for another.

Humor is not quite funny when it becomes angry.

Hal, as a community courtesy
