Water, water everywhere?
Around Town, posted by Triogenes, a resident of the Danville neighborhood, on Mar 26, 2009 at 7:54 am

What is going on with the seemingly unending stream of water flowing down Hartz Ave? It seems to start around the Podva House and flows north until it eventually goes "down the drain."

Can I scoop up some of this water for my garden?

Dear Dolores,

As Triogenes seeks more than one honest man or woman, and a scoop of water, let me share a unique reality. In the Alamo region, the shallow irrigation wells have water levels at <8 feet below the surface with some overflowing. As a result, many homes in the region with foundations carved into the hillsides or with various underground facilities have to use pumps to keep the water table from flooding their sub-surface areas.

It might be appropriate warning to share that such water is only for irrigation due to the various contaminants entering the shallow water strata from horse corrals, building sites and residential fertilization. Watering a vegetable garden using such water should be carefully considered.

Hal, as a community courtesy
