Welcome Capt. Sullenberger Home to Danville
Comments on Stories, posted by Editor, Danville Weekly Online, on Jan 23, 2009 at 7:20 am

The Town of Danville will welcome Capt. Chesley "Sully" Sullenberger home at 1 p.m., tomorrow, Saturday, Jan. 24, with a celebration on the Town Green by the library on Front Street, rain or shine.

Sullenberger, his wife Lorrie and their two daughters will be honored by Mayor Newell Arnerich, the Town Council, Congressman Jerry McNerney, and all residents who want to turn out to celebrate his heroism last week in landing US Airways Flight 1549 in the Hudson River in New York and getting all the passengers to safety.

We should respect Sully and his family and not spend so much town money on this event. We should spend the resources of our city on catching the people who killed Ryan. Our city needs to focus on the business climate and help the stores and people survive this economy.

Sully did his job! Mayor do yours and get this town economy going!

I agree with the concerned Citizen. Captain Sullenberger did a great job in ditching his aircraft in the water. The Official's in Danville should be more focused on the town budget...your party is going to cost more than it's worth. Again, the Captain did his job very well, but maybe it wouldn't have been necessary to ditch the aircraft if Captain Sully was at the controls instead of the co-pilot during take-off procedures.

On the other hand, Concerned Citizen, the more gatherings the mayor can muster in downtown Danville the better! It's events like Captain Sully's homecoming that will fill our restaurants and shops with customers.

While I agree there will be fiscal impact, at times like this it is a true "feel good" for our community; the country and the world.

What a wonderful opportunity to herald Captain Sullenberger, even though some have said he was merely "doing his job"! Wouldn't it be wonderful if everyone did their job?
