Political vandals

Bob Myhre, an opponent of incorporating Alamo and a proponent of a municipal advisory committee, shows the sign that was vandalized while hanging on his truck in the Alamo Plaza parking lot before Saturday's Music and Wine Festival. The sign originally read: "I love Alamo … a MAC … yes!! Incorporation … no!!" but spraypainters concealed the "yes" and the "no."

Dear Editor,

It should be understood AIM and ACF committees and their supporters have supported public dialogue on incorporation. A few individuals as independent incorporation supporters have taken personal actions with people they label opposition. On-line messages have been placed on e-exchanges and via direct e-mail discrediting and defaming those considered public opponents of incorporation.

Via e-exchanges, Bob Myhre's sign has been angrily defamed by these very few authors. Appropriately, these authors are using yahoo or hotmail addresses and on-line names recommended for all e-exchange and forum participation. We can be confident that these individuals are very few and independent of AIM and ACF.

Incorporation proponents in AIM and ACF are very nice people that support Bob Myhre's right to display his preferences and all public presentation of opinion on incorporation.

Dear Editor,

I condemn and deplore this instance of vandalism. There is no place in Alamo for such contemptible activities.

Freedom of speech, freedom of expression, and the free interchange of ideas are the cornerstones of our nation. Open and free political discourse is vital to our liberty and it should never sink to this level. I agree with Hal that Mr. Bob Myhre has every right to display his opinions without interference and without being subject to being defaced.
