Working on the watershed

This isn't a seacoast community. There's no great lake or big river, and it's miles away from the Bay. But we do have the San Ramon Creek.

Dear Editor and Ms. Ballentine,

You might first look at the town of Danville government for sponsoring two major impacts on the San Ramon Creek. One, they forced access to the proposed SRV YMCA via a bridge across the creek in ALAMO (of course) instead of continuing current access to SRV YMCA via Danville and Hap Magee Park. Two, they are supporting equestrian staging on the upper banks of the creek in Hap Magee Park (once again in Alamo).

Watershed protection should start with government planning not to pollute or damage the watershed with bridge construction, equestrian staging drains and horse manure (of all kinds).

Diablo Vista region neighborhoods join you in protecting our watershed and ask you to fully disclose the watershed damage planned for Alamo by Danville, Contra Costa County and the San Ramon Valley YMCA.

For San Ramon Creek neighbors:

The Diablo Vista region ad hoc environments committee has established contact and actions with various organizations controlling water quality and watershed impact in the San Ramon Creek. At present, we have gained review of the impact of planned projects on or near the creek as the SRV YMCA Bridge and Hap Magee Horse Trailer parking.

As you review these projects on www.srvymca.org and www.alamore.org, realize that watershed impact is protected by federal, state and bay region organizations that do not readily accept county environmental impact reports for these projects.

Please voice your concerns to District 3 supervisor's office.
