This was one of the finest displays of governmental authority responding in a most positive way to their constituency. Everyone concerned should be proud of themselves.

Alamo activists should be proud for bringing this issue to the attention of the people.

Alamo residents should be proud for standing up and making their wishes known in letters, emails, and in open meetings.

Supervisor Piepho should be proud for taking the lead to ensure that the lines of communication were kept open and for responding to the will of The People by requesting that this project be moved off the table.

This was government in action the way it should, and can, work.

Dear Neighbors,

Diablo Vista (Alamo) region neighbors in attendance at the Tri Valley Transportation Council (TVTC) meeting, June 30, confirmed that TVTC will not be the authority continuing the conversion of Stone Valley Road and Danville Boulevard to parkways for high foreign traffic flow accommodation. That planning and execution now is with Contra Costa County in several departmental planning authorities and will be executed to supervisors’ definition of the overall project.

As a result, nothing has changed except the politics.

Our regions’ neighbors and community groups, with their own individual interests, came together to expose political intentions to keep such projects “below the radar” and behind closed doors. Such politics has now moved such parkway expansion into the confines of the county where planning is kept away from community review and executed in the same manner as previous expansions at the Alamo business district, MVHS and soon for an undesirable SRV YMCA.

The immediate tasks for our region’s neighbors and their counsel is to remove our region from the Tri Valley and any consideration of their traffic needs, support the Alamo Business District in creating a MALL to replace Stone Valley Road and Danville Boulevard with appropriate access lanes, and invoke overall reduction of foreign traffic usage of our region’s roads and lanes.

We saw only politics in action at TVTC and we must now direct our ownership of our roads and lanes by exceptional local planning in the face of continuing county abuse with foreign traffic.
