Veterans cheer over county transfer of Vet Hall to Danville Comments on Stories, posted by Editor, Danville Weekly Online, on May 21, 2008 at 4:19 pm
Just in time for Memorial Day the Danville Town Council has cleared the final hurdle to rebuild the Veteran's Memorial Building in downtown Danville. The council unanimously approved at its meeting last night a Letter of Intent from the county to transfer ownership of the building to the town; with that action, Danville has committed $5 million toward the project.

Now, Dolores, let us start a campaign to make the Veteran's Hall a center for PEACE. For all the exceptional service and sacrifice of our veterans, we need to find a much better answer to global community than the ignorance of WAR.

Dear Hal,
I felt such pain in your simple request. My niece is serving in Afghanistan and writes often about the people's pain in facing war and not finding solice in the uniforms of our young service people. She clearly understands that a step too far will likely kill her so she simply is saddened by the lack of avenue for resolve.
"Other than WAR, auntie, what have we done to make people free of the burdens of their governments?"
I wish I had an answer. But I know she will return early next month and not see herself as a veteran. She will see herself as a victim of war among all the victims in Afghanistan."

Dear Hal,
I agree and add that we should be making every effort to stop creating more veterans of wars. I had hoped that Viet Nam would have defined war's futility but our ignorant leadership savagely enjoys the options to wage war without true cause.

Let me share a comment received this AM at halbailey@yahoo.com, "..and you dishonor your fellow veterans' service in Viet Nam with your PeaceNIK comments. Why don't you and the rest of your Communist friends move to Berkeley where you belong."
Now that should start some positive dialogue on respect for veterans, don't you think? Do those that served and learned the futility of war have any less right to voice an opinion? Do those that wish to put their service behind them as a nighmare that should not be happening again in Irag have any less right to wish for a global community living in peace?
Does WAR have to exist? Do we really believe it is a solution?
Such answers should be shared and all opinions represented in the renovation and usage of our region's Veteran's Hall. A tribute to Veterans should be a tribute to building a lasting peace.

Dear Hal, Thank you for sharing this Forum by e-exchange.
Anon has never seen the face of anyone that has died violently. There is nothing quiet or peaceful about their expression. There is nothing peaceful or acceptable about being their cause of death.
I would suggest that your region' Veteran's Center be a resource for those that live with memories of such expressions and provide the scope of services that our growing population of veterans will need to salvage their lives in post-war careers. If such a center can't focus on Peace, then let's focus on futures for our veterans.

The expressions on the faces of dead terrorists is not because of their violent deaths. This is what they look like when they discover that instead of promised virgins, they are now promised to hell everlasting.
