Streetwise: Favorite presidents State, National, International, posted by Editor, Danville Weekly Online, on Nov 2, 2012 at 8:48 am
With the election just days away, "Who will be the president for the next four years?" is the question on many minds. This week, Roving Reporter Stan Wharton walked along Railroad Avenue to ask resident registered voters Who's your all time favorite President of the United States?

Paul O'Neill, President Bush's first Secretary of Treasury, told that administration within the first months in 2001, that if they instituted their policies, "...there would be a financial 'Armageddon' that the country would be hard pressed to get out of!..." And this was BEFORE Bush took us into two wars, neither of which were paid for, or exit strategies in place.
Enter President Obama, who rightfully so stated we needed a 'Grand Strategy' of raising taxes on the upper-end of our society, and also cutting expenses, by a 4- 1 margin. The Right has fought him tooth and nail, every step of the way. Governor Romney offers nothing in his platform but the very same cutting of taxes for all. This has not worked, it has never worked, and never will. But it's NOT what the Governor says, it's what he DOESN'T say: what deductions is he going to eliminate for the middle class to offset those tax cuts. All we've heard, and continue to hear, is crickets chirping when that question is asked. Bottom line, his math just doesn't add up, and what he promised can't be done.
We're in a mess, no doubt about it. But I for one will be voting for President Obama, who I consider one of our greatest Presidents and will prove it if given 4 more years - cause I know he's on the right path: Steady upward growth (although slower than any of us want), stock market is back (along with our 401k's and pensions), the auto industry is once again strong, and most importantly, he hasn't dropped the ball in going after our enemies. I know the great majority of you will disagree (or at least 50% of you will), and that's fine, it's what political discourse is all about,...and why I love this country!

Alright, which of you rubes still believe in trickle-down economics? Okay, very good. Now form a line over here for "Derek's Lew-Eeze-E-Anna Marshland Real Estate Investment Scheme". I have some parcels to sell, and you will make millions practically overnight. Because if you're dumb enough to buy into third-time Ronnie Raygun reruns, you'll buy anything.

You sound more like a liberal Democrat than an Independent! Tell me "ONE" thing Obama has done to help this country's economy! He wasted our money on several "green" companies such as Solyndra, which went bankrupt after 6 months and the Fisker car; (manufactured in Finland) which the company decided "not to build" after Obama gave them $ millions of our money! Of course there's also the Stimulus Bill that was supposed to be "shovel ready" and cost taxpayers $ Billions but did nothing to stimulate our economy! Nancy Pelosi got $30M of that Stimulus money to save the Salt Marsh Havest Mouse in the Delta!!! What about 2 campaign buses Obama had made in "Canada" to the tune of $2M each??!! Boy that put alot of Americans to work....NOT!

This president has wasted so much taxpayer money and raised the national debt from $3 Trillion to $16 Trillion in 4 years! He doesn't know how to stop spending! He's like a kid in a candy store with OUR money! He must have been a very spoiled little boy who got everything he wanted! I know for a fact he went to the very best private schools on Oahu. I don't know how anyone can say Obama has been a good president much less vote for him! If you vote for him your are either stupid or a diehard Democrat....same thing!

CW: this is the second time you've posted that nonsense on this board. Here's the debt for selected years:
1980 908B
1990 3,230B (meaning Reagan tripled it)
2001 5,807B (much slower rate of growth under Bush1 and Clinton)
2009 11,910B (meaning Bush2 doubled it in 8 years)
now 16,200B (meaning Obama is responsible for 4.3T, not 13 flippin' trillion!
Is that a problem we have to deal with? Yes -- by ending wars, continuing to get the economy back on its feet, and raising taxes on the wealthy. But Bush2's deficits were run in GOOD TIMES, AND he cut taxes, which made it even worse! Obama's deficits have been the result of the wars he was handed, AND his necessary policies to stimulate the economy out of the worst recession in 80 years.
If you want to make an example of a Prez who spent like a drunken sailor on shore leave, it's not this one -- it's the previous edition. And your numbers are just obscenely bad. Here's my source: Web Link Where's yours?

Don't forget, Aubrey -- he also failed to stand on the Jersey shore and divert the path of Hurricane Sandy. He could have done it, too, but he played it for political advantage, instead.
Just like he could've united the country in the face of an opposition party whose number one, stated and well-enforced goal was to try to make him a one-term president.

Yes, must be failure: record corporate profits; stock market more than doubled; turned monthly job loss rate of more than 700,000/month when he came into office to monthly job gain of more than 150,000 per month. Forgot about those facts, huh?

Derek and Dnville "Independent" you both have been drinking the Koolaid!! How can you say this President has done a good job? I'm 70 yrs. old and I can tell you without a doubt Obama is the worst President this country has ever had, bar none! I say that without bias! Go see the movie 2016 and then tell me you think Obama has good intentions for this country! He plans to reduce our defense missiles from 5,000 to 300; (to appease Russia), and our ships down to what we had in 1915! He wants to make us look weak in the eyes of the world. He is Muslim! Notice how he picks and chooses what Muslm countries he helps and how he is slow to say: "It was a terrorist attack"??! Wake up! This country needs a new leader who will give us the "right" change and defend our country and "NOT" apologize for it! If you love this country you will vote for Romney!

I must apologize, CW, for challenging your deficit numbers -- it turns out that "off by 300%" was the closest you'd come to accuracy on anything you have written here.
