I'm sure the Danville Express is telling us this as an informational matter.
Oh wait one minute...maybe we are being told this because the Danville Express staff wants us the understand that Obama is putting people back to work...so a vote in November for Obama is a vote for lower unemployment....WOW
Please Danville Express, we the people have been fooled already by those wonderful folks in DC...don't you start carrying their torch.
I think the DE should leave this kind of news or propaganda to the big bad boy's...stick to local news...it fits you better.

I don't believe it for one minute! The company my husband works for just closed their doors in San Francisco, Chicago, New York and Boston putting several thousand people out of work! I agree with Julia! I truly believe the Obama administration is lying to the American people regarding many things, unemployment for one, so we will vote for him! I don't trust him or anything he says! WE ARE DEFINITElY NOT BETTER OFF THAN WE WERE FOUR YEARS AGO! THANKS FOR NOTHIN OBAMA!!!

....and by the way "Cardinal", "YES" I do believe businesses are waiting to see who will be elected....hopefully Romney, because Obama has done nothing but hurt business with his taxes and regulations! Instead of working on creating jobs he was twisting arms and making promises to get Congressman to sign his healthcare bill or playing gold....or taking expensive trips on the the taxpayers!! He had two buses made "in Canada" to the tune of $2 Million each for him to campaign in! Wasn't there a bus manufacturer in the U.S. he could have used?? When he and Michelle went to Brazil he gave that country $2 Million for oil drilling yet he wouldn't allow oil drilling here! Michelle gave Brazil $1M for their schools while our schools are closing!! And look at all the bad "green energy" investments he made with our money; that FAILED!!! There's Solyndra; (went bankrupt after 6 mos), Fisker; (electric car made in Finland. They decided not to build the car after Obama gave them our $$$)!! Another was a car battery company that to this day hasn't made even one battery and is laying employees off! Good job Obama!NOT! His Stimulus Bill did nothing but stimulate the Democrats who signed it! Then ; (no Republican involvement), who didn't bother to read it and our illustrious Nancy Pelosi said: "We'll just sign it and then see what's in it"!!! Brilliant!! She's a real winner! NOT!

It's easy to say the unemployment rate fell, but we all know it's a lie. The "unemployment rate" they calculate is based on the number of those filing unemployment claims. When the claims expire, those people are no longer counted as "unemployed" although they have no job. They just don't get EDD benefits anymore... So, don't believe these figures. It's truly NOT an accurate representation of the real unemployment numbers...

But Rick, you seemed so unhappy about what almost anybody else would consider Unqualified Good News. Gosh, you sound just like Mr. Etcha-Sketchy, with knickers all atwist over the descriptive term "Romnesia."

What I love is how the Faux News addicts on this blog can never see the contradictions in their positions.
For example, they criticize President Obama for taking any vacation time (at taxpayer expense!), but, were ok with President Bush taking even more vacation days.
Or, they seem outraged that President Obama's campaign would purchase a high-security bus from a Canadian company, yet never mention that President Bush's campaign purchased its bus from the very same Canadian company in 2004.
Or, how they are so eager now to count those who have given up looking for work and those who have only part-time jobs in the unemployment numbers, so as to get a more accurate figure, but when this methodology was suggested during the Bush years, they rejected that approach.

Ah,clearly a conspiracy to confuse the dedicated righties is afoot.
Concerned C - the way the unemployment rates are calculate have not changed. They are calculated today the same way as they were calculated during the Bush administration. Had this news been released back then, would your comment be the same?

Mendacity was the hallmark of the Bush Administration (WMDs, torture, projected cost of Iraq War, etc.). Republicans became so used to leaders in their party employing misinformation for political gain that they must be assuming that it's the normal course of business for others. It's tough to break out of that mindset, huh, Rick?

Its plain and simple, the only reason there is such animosity towards our president is because of the color of his skin. Everyone wants to pretend that is not the case ... but that is at the core of all discourse about his policies.

It is with a great deal of sorrow that I respond to some of the awful comments made by people who consider themselves good citizens. Our country will unravel as a great nation because we are starting to behave so poorly toward our fellow Americans. It is a shame to see intelligent people behaving so boorishly. During WWII, when young men had no say in the matter, they bravely put their lives on the line because they wanted to save a country that deserved their love. I can't say that would be true today. We are starting to act like cowards who can't accept a change in leadership unless it meets their exact requirements, giving no thought to anyone but themselves. Shame on all of you - what a poor example you are for your children, grandchildren and society at large.

Hypothetically asking, six months into a potential Romney Administration, if unemployment rates fall to a value less then 6%, will you be the first one to question those numbers or will they simply reflect a renewed and restored American economy, in your opinion?

@Rick P - how is the unemployment index calculated differently in the current report than when Bush was president? The indicators are measured exactly the same. I don't necessarily think these methods are the most accurate, now OR in the previous administrations. That said, the way the rates are calculated are consistent and therefore valuable as a tool for comparison.
