I would appreciate suggestions from my fellow citizens, I have a sizable amount of books accumulated over the years and I need to do a bit of a "purge"...I have heard Garage Sales seem to sell very few and I would appreciate feedback from others that are in my boat and have found a suitable remedy in the past. I am happy to donate to whomever might want them. Any suggestions?

Danville library will look through and take what they want, usually. kids books can go to local schools. next step is the used book stores. after that you can try thrift stores and after that, use them as kindling for your next fire.

@JRM, your timing is perfect - I am also in possession of a fair amount of books that I would like to donate. I'll be checking for responses to this tread (more of the "one stop dropping" type). Thanks!

Kaiser Pediatrics, and Children's Hospital Oakland, are great places to donate books, both for sick children and their parents.
Saint Vincent DePaul, Catholic Charities, also appreciate books that they can sell at their stores, which creates both jobs for people in need, and funds for their numerous charities.

Don't forget the Friends of the Library Book Store at the Danville Library. They accept book donations and in turn sell them to support the library. For large donations, call ahead. They have hand carts to help unload the books. From the library website Web Link: We are glad to accept your book donations for our sales. All books in good, clean condition are saleable. We also accept videos, books-on-tape, audio books, DVDs and CDs. We do not accept encyclopedias, National Geographic, Reader’s Digest, magazines of any kind, textbooks more than two years old, or any books that have been exposed to smoke, mildew or water. As a side note, the Friends of the Danville Library Bookstore is a wonderful place to find used books and excellent prices. I've found many books that are still on the bestseller lists for much less than a used bookstore. You'll be surprised at the assortment! They also have a quarterly book sale where all books are $1 or less. Support your Danville Library and get some good books!!

The Friends of the Library Bookstore is located inside of the Danville Library and is open Monday-Saturday from 10-5. Enter the Danville Library on Front Street and take an immediate right (towards the bathrooms), the entrance to the bookstore is on the right with a drop off area for donations right in front. Took my books in to the Danville Library today and the staff was awesome.....my thanks to the volunteers at the Danville Library! I am so grateful for their service...we are so fortunate to have a Library....I remember Sully Sullenberger speaking to the nation on CNN after the "Miracle on the Hudson" on the front steps. That was a historic moment. Out little Library was front and center! I remember riding my bike around the old school that occupied that space. Any past students care to share a memory of that place gone by? We would love to hear them.
