Streetwise: What are your plans for the holidays?
Comments on Stories, posted by Editor, Danville Weekly Online, on Dec 8, 2011 at 7:16 pm

As Christmas, Hanukkah and Kwanza (or Festivus, for Seinfeld fans) approach, many residents are solidifying their plans for the holidays. This week, Roving Reporter Stan Wharton went to Castle Square to ask What are your plans for the holidays?

Just now, Editor, I was asked how Yule Tide fits into the celebrations surrounding the shift toward a new year. As of Danish and French heritage, I responded that Yule Tide simply means the wheel, as our earth, turns back toward Spring in the northern hemisphere and our lives are renewed in celebration.

Amazingly, the concept of holidays during this season as Fall going to Winter, has many definitions and all are grounded in Yule Tide. Far more interesting is the intent by many to enjoy family and friends as the most special gifts with celebrations of food and more rather than the retail influence of the holidays.

You might take Stan's question further and ask about the nature of this time of year that brings us to celebration.

Now that you've helped these people DISCLOSE their holiday plans TO THE WORLD (and when they will be away from home), I hope and trust that they will adequately protect their houses from criminals while they are away (by having appropriate house-sitters, police assistance, etc.).

You've got to be more careful with "information" on the internet.

Good luck!

Otherwise, merry Christmas to everyone!

Terrific Streetwise! Could the next one maybe be, "what is the code to your house's alarm system?" It'd be interesting to see what people come up with!
