USPS fiscal crisis: reductions in services to Alamo
State, National, International, posted by [removed], a resident of the Alamo neighborhood, on Jun 23, 2011 at 7:04 am

Dear Editor,

News services are reporting the fiscal crisis at the United States Postal Service and impacts on operations at our post offices. Alamo post office will consolidate routes from 15 to 10 in July and extend delivery times to late afternoon in many neighborhoods.

Additionally, mail received from sorting centers after 10AM will be delivered the next day. Also, package delivery on lanes that have their mail boxes at the entrance to the lane will be discontinued and packages will be delivered to mail boxes or a notice will be provided for pick up at the post office.

News services will be providing a list of post office closings in the coming weeks and initial information suggests that most counter service will be available only at major city post offices such as Walnut Creek, Lafayette and San Ramon.

Dear Editor,

Changes and elimination of routes are already in progress in Alamo and other nearby areas with mail arriving in many neighborhoods after 3:30PM. Further, most mail is arriving one day later due to lack of availability to carriers prior to their 10AM mandatory departure for their expanded routes. Routes have divided neighborhoods that loss their route resulting in neighbors receiving mail at different times between 3:30PM and 5:30PM.

There is now a story to be covered and explanations from Post Masters to be provided in the Express.
