Monte Vista students fight to keep one lunch hour for all
Schools & Kids, posted by Editor, Danville Weekly Online, on Feb 19, 2008 at 10:57 pm

Hundreds of Monte Vista High School students banned together this week - donning white hand-drawn T-shirts with the slogan "One School, One Lunch" - to demonstrate that the student body shouldn't be split up during lunch period. Principal Becky Smith says it's too hard to regulate the closed campus with over 2,400 kids out of class at once.

Dear neighbors,

Here's an idea, have lunch a required subject and everything else an elective. Lunch could be held on Saturdays.

Winning idea!

Dear neighbors,

When so many years ago when my 40+ year old daughter was a MVHS Student a similar plan to separate classes by different lunch hours was attempted. Seniors at that time worked hard to keep a single lunch period so that all students could be part of MVHS' community of students.

Someone might look back at that time to better understand how important community is within a high school.
