Monarch Butterflies In My Backyard? Around Town, posted by jrm, a member of the Vista Grande Elementary School community, on Jun 12, 2011 at 9:02 pm jrm is a member (registered user) of Danville Express
Okay, a shout out to the more astute naturalists around town, I think I have seen a few Monarchs fluttering around my backyard in the last few days...anyone else? I would like to hear more about their journey, if I am right they hatch in Mexico and fly all the way up here but I would like to learn more. What the heck do they eat to provide nutrition and energy for such a long trip and is there anything I can so to attract more to my backyard?

Dear Editor,
Please check with Mt Diablo State Park volunteers for information on Monarch and similarly marked "mariposa". Actual Monarchs avoid areas where they do not have protection from predators.
