Hal Bailey does not support AIM's incorporation proposal
Around Town, posted by Hal Bailey, a resident of another community, on Feb 19, 2008 at 3:49 pm

Dear neighbors,

The placement of my name on the Alamo Incorporation Movement supporter list, www.alamoinc.org, was not requested or approved by me and AIM has been informed to remove my name immediately.

I have no continuing interest in AIM's incorporation activities. I am not an AIM supporter. My only planned action is to vote YES or NO based on the incorporation proposal provided in any incorporation election.

Hal Bailey

Dear neighbors,

It must be Spring Training or something!

It was someone's idea to play a prank on our good-humored friend, Hal, by listing his name as supporting formation of an independent and autonomous city council and government that has no obligation to serve the interests, needs and advisory of our neighbors and neighborhoods.

That sure sounds like something our HAL would support, now doesn't it!

It is only a prank. Just laugh at it, Hal!

Dear Neighbors,

My name was placed on the AIM supporter list by my wife, an AIM supporter, without my permission or notice.

Mr. Steve Mick has promised removal of my name. I continue to appreciate Steve as a gentleman and an exceptional contributor to our region.

Best wishes,

Hal Bailey

Dear neighbors,

It is sad how cavalier our concern for our freedoms become at our most local level. We are offered nothing but more of the same by governments and their supporters. Then we are asked to sacrifice our rights of self-determination to some further level of government that promises nothing more than those we have.

How casual our concerns are in the eyes of those who will not care,

Linda

Dear neighbors,

As Linda (no relation) noted, we are faced with the lack of options for how we become a community and the choices to define how we might govern any community we create. In this forum, a neighbor had to declare his non-support for proposed government in our region and he is not alone. The declaration represents the position and opinion of a majority of neighbors in the Diablo Vista (Alamo) region.

One neighbor should not have to stand alone,

Dear neighbors,

Interviews with Hal and others over the past eight months produced a rational desire to vote YES on an incorporation proposal that would specify the structure, operations, services, commissions and committees to be provided by an elected town council. In our coffee conversation that willingness to vote YES still exists for the 2200 neighbors that signed the AIM petition.

The reason a majority withdrew their interest in incorporation was the incorporation proposal allowed by Contra Costa LAFCo as part of the incorporation application process. That incorporation proposal provides an independent and autonomous town council with no obligation to consider the interests, needs or advisory of neighbors and their neighborhoods.

It bears repeating why HAL does not stand alone,

Anne

Please neighbors,

Simply let it be a fact that expectations cannot be met for a local government through the CC LAFCo incorporation application process based on current policy. Let's keep our options open to support an incorporation proposal at time of election that satisfies our voice in community decisions.

That can be provided by CC LAFCo and I want to support such provision with my YES vote. Until and unless such an incorporation proposal exists, let me join you in no further comment or interest in incorporation in the Diablo Vista (Alamo) Region.

Let's enjoy the quiet,

Hal Bailey

Dear neighbors,

Hal's very earnest request is affordable because we have nothing to lose. At present any LAFCo-specified government will not serve our region. We lose nothing by simply taking no interest or action.
