Measure F vote today: setting park and recreation appropriations
Around Town, posted by [removed], a resident of the Alamo neighborhood, on Jun 7, 2011 at 11:22 am

Dear Editor,

REF: Web Link

Documents confirming exceptional rates for CCC-PW services have been circulating in Alamo (R-7A and Z-36) neighborhoods today that have caused neighborhood reps to encourage a NO vote on Measure F at the polls today. Most Alamo residents vote by mail and it should be understood that most votes have already been cast. Once again, for voters that are still considering Measure F approval, the value of a YES vote is the full use of parcel taxes that can be directed by a majority of residents demanding a voice in planning and operations of parks, recreation and beautification projects including seeking services other than CCC-PW to provide such results.

For those many residents that wish to voice their issues with costs of CCC-PW services to R-7A and Z-36, Contra Costa County Municipal Advisory Council for Alamo (“Alamo MAC”) is meeting today, June 7, at 6PM at the Cottage in Hap Magee Ranch Park. Your 3 minute presentation can summarize the discovery of CCC-PW exceptional rates and costs as distributed yesterday in county documentation. Your submission of documentation can be directly provided to Ms. Karen Basting, Chief of Staff for Supervisor Piepho. You should also consider presenting to Alamo Improvement Association Board meeting, June 9, at 7PM at the Creekside Church. AIA offers interactive discussion and strong independent voice with highest levels of county government and the state departments and legislative committees that oversee county fiscal operations.

Dear Editor,

With less than a quarter of the eligible votes counted, Measure F appears to be headed for majority approval. Such a result invites the next step for Alamo residents to provide their approval of current efforts and/or the future efforts they wish to see for parks and recreation programs in Alamo.

Let’s suggest that Alamo region residents provide a self-survey of their desires reported as protecting open space and ridgeline, developing more school-based recreation and exercise facilities, native planting along walkways and pathways on our major roads including covered drainage, and any and all support for the current formal parks and programs. Treat such a survey as if it were a Streetwise question and invite Alamo region residents to define their preferences. Individual residents might consider forwarding their guidance to the AIA community affairs committee via www.alamoca.org and to CCC-MAC Alamo members via www.alamore.org.

There will be more than $1 million dollars to spend now and then next year. Isn’t it time for a majority of Alamo region residents to provide guidance to how it is spent. If neighborhoods or groups in the Alamo region want to discuss what is possible, resident participants should invite the AIA community affairs committee and CCC-MAC Alamo members to informal discussions. No matter what, $1 million is now ready to be spent and it should be more than CCC-PW that decides such uses of our parcel taxes.
