Streetwise: What does Memorial Day mean to you?
Around Town, posted by Editor, Danville Weekly Online, on May 27, 2011 at 7:07 am

Recently, Express staff sparked a debate about who should be honored during the Memorial Day Holiday -- all veterans, those who have died in the line of duty or anyone that has passed and holds special significance? Looking forward to seeing the community's families at the ceremony honoring Veterans:

Memorial Day Observance 2011

Monday May 30 10:30 am

Oak Hill Park

3005 Stone Valley Road (park Monte Vista High), Danville

The largest traditional Memorial Day observance in the East Bay takes place in Danville! Many of you know this as the site of the “All Wars Memorial” – a beautiful and educational Memorial honoring our Military, Veterans and Patriots from all wars.

Sponsored by the VietNam Veterans of Diablo Valley, the All Wars Memorial Foundation, and the Town of Danville. This year’s Memorial Day remembrance will feature keynote speaker Richard Burress, a World War II Marine Corps Veteran, who served as a lieutenant on Iwo Jima.

Vets (both those passed and still living) & armed services folks...that's what it's all about, not Memorial Day Weekend blow-out sales at the mall or at the local car dealerships. God bless those that go in harm's way for the rest of us.
