There is something special about campaigns going into 2012. A blend of reality television, faux news, and carnival sideshows are further distracting our nation's voters from the realities of global economy, community and humanity that are impacting the fabric of our culture. Global news services are providing exceptional analysis of the impact of USAmerican economic processes on monetary values, trade balances, and political relationships. And yet, our mainstream national news sources either ignore such considerations or divert attention with the sideshow atmosphere of birth certificates, racism, and campaign nonsense.
I was wondering if Express Forum readers are enjoying such national media presentation?

Does anyone else find it amusing that the Republicans have suddenly "gotten religion" on budget deficits after ignoring them for 8 years under Bush? Wasn't it Dick Cheney who famously remarked during the Bush years that "deficits don't matter?" Where was all the Republican outcry when Bush funded two wars off-budget and gave massive transfers of wealth to the rich through income tax and capital gains tax cuts?
Of course the real political and campaign issue is not deficits, how to grow the economy. If we can increase consumer demand, the economy will grow, and jobs will come back (and the deficits will shrink as tax revenues increase). Without increased consumer demand, our economy will languish for years more.
More tax cuts to the wealthy or to already cash-flush corporations is just a canard, pushed by an opportunistic segment that is attempting to take advantage of an economic crisis to feather their own nests.
