U.S. Grants Outside of U.S.
State, National, International, posted by askidoo, a resident of the Alamo neighborhood, on Feb 4, 2011 at 6:25 pm

Several months ago Garamendi's office contacted several local groups about helping them with grants. When pressed it turned out his office was only providing a government website which lists the grants; LOL. However, that website Grants.gov is enlightening.

Browse through and see how much in many categories are not for local citizens and outside of the United States and add up to many millions of dollars. It is an interesting view of foreign aid or 'grants' go to grants.gov: grant search; browse by agency or category.

An example under Community is the Yemen Responsive Government Project which is through Egypt USAID in Cairo. Cost is $43,000,00. It is an example of a failed project idea if you watch all that is happening in recent news stories on both Egypt and Yemen (understatement). Or the similar Community Livelihoods Project for $125,000,000. Both state they are, in some way,"to facilitate more equitable 'socio-economic development... to mitigate the drivers of instability in Yemen."

This is a very good example of how we the people are asleep and need a good kick in the behind.

If the Danville Express wrote an article that a tree was being cut down in the Town of Danville there would 20 + comments an hour.

Garamendi is not a good representative for We The People...in fact none of them are...they are for me, myself and I.

I really hope some day soon, We The People wake up and let those so called representatives we allow to look out for our interest that We The People come first. If not, you may see some civil actions we see happening in other places.

Thanks for listening...Julia from Alamo

Wow. That's an eye-opener into how our Government has grown into such an expensive, huge, slush-fund of BIG GOVERNMENT COST. So many give-aways for other countries at our expense. So many lush executive jobs for gov't workers to work to improve other countries at our expense.

I just BROWSED for awhile at Web Link

I discovered an AGENCY named "Middle East Partnership Initiative (MEPI)" which has one program listed as "01/21/2011 Civic Education Middle East Partnership Initiative NEAPI-11-AW-031-MENA-012111".

This one program has $7 million of funding (taxpayer's money) to promote civic education of children and youth (...ages of 15 and 30) across the Middle East and North Africa "to become active and engaged participants in social, political, and economic life."

The MEPI is just one part of the Bureau of Near Eastern Affairs which is one part of the U.S. Department of State. The MEPI has 35 full-time staff and contractors in Washington, D.C., and Coordinators, Administrators, and Foreign Service Officers serving in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region.

And this is one of thousands of such governmental "grant" programs.

This is exactly why "Conservatives" say that Government is too big and too expensive.

Maybe this is a "nice" program by a "nice" agency that does "good" things in the world. But this is not what our American "government" should be involved in--government has extended itself too far and too costly. If American individuals want to "do good" for others, then let them make that private choice. Government should not be exacting taxes from any of us to then spend it on these grand schemes!
