The past couple weeks have been significant for me. I've visited Walt Disney World, won a national championship in Ultimate Frisbee and, here's the kicker, accepted a new job in a different field. That means it's time for me to say goodbye as your editor.
These past four years have been quite a ride covering Pleasanton and eventually Dublin, Danville and San Ramon. Before I started, this area was unfamiliar to me. I only knew about Stoneridge Shopping Center and had driven down Pleasanton's Main Street once.
Since then, I have learned a lot about the Valley: its friendly people, great schools and quaint neighborhoods. I've covered countless school board meetings and community events as I moved up from reporter to features editor and then to online editor.
In my short time here, I have also been a part of the changing world of journalism. In 2006, the Pleasanton Weekly had yet to have an online presence and I was writing a few stories a week in addition to getting the police blotter. That soon changed with the addition of the website and the Town Square forums, both of which required daily, if not hourly, attention. In my role as editor of the Danville Express and San Ramon Express, added to my responsibilities was filling daily email editions and getting late-breaking news online right away.
What attracted me to journalism back in college was how it filled my love of telling stories. I thrived on meeting people, asking questions, mulling over the conversation in my mind, finding something catchy and presenting it in a printed package. People doubted that there could be real news behind the trappings of suburbia, but I can attest that they are many stories here, some that are just waiting to be told.
Thank you for sharing your community and your lives. While I leave behind my reporter's notebook and red pen, I will cherish the many stories and conversations and carry them with me in my new endeavors.

Emily...kudos for you for your graceful administration of this web, and indeed all the additional challenges facing your industry that young future talent like you face in your chosen field. You have been kind and responsive at the wee hours of the morning..and did your best to set things right. I want to say job well done and I hope you return to journalism soon...I just want to give you a cyber pat on the back...and I know others do as well..

Dear Emily,
Since we went to different schools together it is only appropriate that we run off together in opposite directions. All the gang down here @ODDs, a Saloon for Fools, will miss your efforts to keep this forum on track and focused on issues.
Walk, don't run to the nearest exit and celebrate,
