Schools & Kids, posted by Editor, Danville Weekly Online, on Oct 11, 2010 at 11:02 am

More than 1,000 people lined the streets of downtown Danville Friday to watch a mid-afternoon homecoming parade that also celebrated the 100th anniversary of San Ramon Valley High School, one of the oldest high schools in the Bay Area.

Hats off to Joe Ianora and SRVHS for a terrific Homecoming event this past weekend. You can never control how the football team is going to play, but everything else was top-notch. The all-class alumni tailgate was well attended, and when looked at along with the packed stands, the corps of cheerleaders, the floats, the band set up inside the fence adjacent to the field, the endzone bleachers full, and the fireworks during the national anthem, it was truly a gala "carnival" type atmosphere. It was definitely THE PLACE to be on Friday night. Paying homage to the school's past was great to see, and Mr. Ianora deserves a lot of the credit, along with his committees. Though my own high school is nowhere near 100 years old, I'd love for it to do something along this same scale some year soon. Great job, SRVHS!

For SRVHS Alumni reading this exchange, there is a San Ramon Valley High School Alumni Group on Linkedin.com. The San Ramon Valley High School Alumni Association is now sending newsletters and reminders of annual dues that support scholarships.

I am only a parent of SRVHS graduates. My high schools no longer exist which prompts congratulations to SRVHS for 100 years!

Sent a message on Monday and it didn't take! Or got deleted

Also used the verification code. Clicked on Submit. Did you get it? Second timne this has happend. We wanted to thank the kind teacher that came out and offered to take a family picture of us. He said he taught History, but didn't get his name written down, unfortunately. So if this one goes thru, thank you so much. Very thoughtful of you. We will love the picture of the 3 generations.

We had three sons graduate from SR and one is still very involved. Drove his '48 convertible with the "oldest grads" and the wolf in it; in the parade. And as DJDAVE did the music for the tailgate party.
