When you investigate, you find out that the YMCA is an excellent non-profit organization (as opposed to a "commercial" for-profit health club).

It is extremely kid-friendly (unlike many/most clubs), with an abundance of programs for children--which is a direct, huge value to parents and communities.

It is relatively inexpensive. (They also have subsidized rate programs for those in need.)

This geographic area has a tremendous lack of full-provisioned health clubs (as opposed to small aeorbic exercises locations).

The YMCA is also extremely senior-citizen friendly (with its pools usually kept at a warmer temperature than many clubs). I only STRONGLY WISH that it would have TENNIS COURTS (which are greatly lacking in number in this area)--but there are no such plans at all.

YMCA's are also family-friendly and are helping to work on the obesity problem in children and communities.

I think that this YMCA is going to be a great BENEFIT for the cities of Alamo & Danville and is an extremely long-time in coming.( I wish it had been in operation when my kids were young and in-town.) All the surrounding cities (for miles) should be happy and proud that there will be a YMCA--with its facilities, program offerings, and track history--in its driveable vicinity.......and they SHOULD support it substantially. It will provide services that the community needs (and that the city has not coughed up the money to put in sufficient facilities of its own). So it is doing the work of the city (in some sense) and it is extremely valid use of public funds.

This is too good a value to be dissing.

The location is relatively unencumbering because it is right here in our city and close to our housing (which is actually an excellent time-efficent thing for us in an area where it is almost impossible to find a large chunk of vacate land anymore), yet it is as unintrusive as could be (with its presence alongside the freeway, alongside a park, and having the separation from houses of a river). This was a virtually unusable and somewhat undesirable piece of land in some regards (which is why it wasn't already developed).

Yes, it takes a short drive through residential to get there, but I'd rather have it close by, than located somewhere far away or in Antioch.

Let's get kids (and adults) off of the video games and TV and into exercising and sports.

I encourage everyone to help fund this YMCA and bring the benefits of it to this area "like yesterday"!

Please consider contributing--this is a worthwhile local organization building facilities that families will use for generations onward! (I sound like a fund-raiser, but I'm NOT connected with the YMCA.)

Before I dropped out of hi-school some kids would do "carwashes" to get xtra money for there groups. Maybe svr ymca can make more money by doing a drive through car paint job. Maybe Kelly-Moore or Sherwin-Williams could donate there less popular colors and folks from srv ymca could paint the cars for $15. I think that this could be a win-win for srv ymca and the community. But know one cares what the painter thinks. That's ok.
