Controversial ridgeline project is a go
Around Town, posted by Editor, Danville Weekly Online, on Sep 20, 2007 at 4:50 pm

After more than a year of legal wrangling, the members of the Danville Town Council gave their grudging approval at their Tuesday meeting to a development request that would put a 7,000-square-foot home on a ridgeline above Danville.

A lesson learned!

The county will use its courts to impose abuse on communities including incorporated cities. Thus, if any community wishes to be independent of aggregated politics, the answer is a very mighty warchest and exceptional actions by counsel. It will not be long before all communities are the towns named SUE.

It will take a very private effort representing a majority with MONEY to stop the abuse of our skyline and ridgeline. Alamo and Danville combined has an annual income collectively near $5 million. We should be able to change the minds of individual affluence, now shouldn't we?

Sic'em,

Hal

Boy, the Town of Danville sure rolled over on this one! Skyvilla bought a ten acre parcel dirt cheap and is going to turn it into a silk purse, at everyone else's expense. The lot was dirt cheap because it has driveways for its neighboors criss-crossing it every which way, and it has the pesky "major scenic ridgeline" restriction. Those two things prevent construction of a house on all but the lowermost part of the lot. But not to worry! Get the right soils engineers, the right lawyers, and bada-bing bada-bang, the Town rolls over!! 7,000sf McMansion on top of the hill!!

Truthfully, I'm all for property rights but this particular case is going to force the Town to preemptively attack property rights for every hillside development from now on. Enjoy your victory Skyvilla, ya bastige!
