 | Dublin police have dropped charges against rapper MC Hammer in connection with an incident at Hacienda Crossings Shopping Center.
The rapper sent out a message on Twitter reading "Thank You to all my friends and supporters. All CHARGES DECLINED. Dropped. Have A great Weekend."
Dublin police could not be reached for comment Saturday.
Police said previously that Hammer, also known as 50-year-old Stanley Kirk Burrell, was approached after officers spotted him parked at a Shell gas station near the shopping center around 10:20 p.m. on Feb. 21. The car had expired registration tags, police Lt. Herb Walters said.
Burrell could not produce any proof that the vehicle was his and became uncooperative with officers, Walters said. He was arrested on
suspicion of obstructing an officer in the performance of his duties and resisting an officer.
The Tracy resident was booked into the Santa Rita Jail but posted bail and was released, Walters said.
According to Burrell, a police officer approached him and arrested him without cause.
In one Tweet, he said the officer "was tapping on my car window, I rolled down the window and he said, 'Are you on parole or probation?'"
"It was comical to me until he pulled out his guns, blew his whistle and yelled for help," he tweeted.
He then tweeted, "only thing more dangerous than a scared man with a gun, is a scared man with an agenda, a gun and a badge."
Officers found an expired registration in the car but were unable to contact the registered owner, who was not Burrell, Walters said.— Bay City News Service Are you receiving Express, our free daily e-mail edition? See a sample and sign-up for Express.

Posted by Danville Indepenent, a member of the San Ramon Valley High School community, on Mar 12, 2013 at 6:59 am I certainly believe that MC was in the wrong here, but I also agree with the decision to drop the charges. People: if you're not guilty, DO what the police officer TELLS you to do! I wish MC could walk a mile in the average cops shoes for a day or two, and see the crap they have to put up with: it's a difficult job at best. The belligerent attitude shown by some people towards hard-working officers, who are there for US, continues to amaze me...

You have a guy with a bad attitude sitting in a car with expired registration and no owner to be found. If Mr. Hammer had cooperated, he would most likely not have ended up in custody. Also, if Mr. You Can't Touch This, had explained to the police officer who the owner was, he would not have gone to jail.

Posted by Citizen Paine, a resident of the Danville neighborhood, on Mar 13, 2013 at 8:02 am You know, it would be at least as easy to assume that the case was dropped because of defects in the cop's performance of his duties. But what's fascinating is that every reader of these very incomplete facts fills-in his/her own -- based mostly on our preconceptions.
I don't know what happened that evening, and neither do you -- so I think I'll just shrug and file this under "the human nature, ain't it ridiculous?"

"Burrell could not produce any proof that the vehicle was his and became uncooperative with officers," Walters said.
Calling the Lt. A liar? ACSO made this thing all up, huh? Come out of your bubble, this kind of thing happens all the time. Just because it happened to a one time parachute pajama pants dancer doesn't mean he gets a free pass.
