Bookmark and Share
A suspect in a Danville residential burglary Friday morning was arrested after leading police on a chase that ended in collisions with other
cars on state Highway 24 near the Caldecott Tunnel, authorities said.

The burglary was reported around 10:30 a.m. at a home on Waingarth Way in Danville, according to police.

A resident called police and said she discovered a man in her home after hearing footsteps. The man then fled with items from the house and drove away.

Using a description given by the victim, officers spotted the suspect vehicle and a chase began.

The suspect headed north on Interstate Highway 680 and continued onto westbound Highway 24.

The chase ended just east of the Caldecott Tunnel after the suspect collided with other cars, police said.

Information about possible injuries suffered in the crashes was not immediately available from authorities.

The suspect attempted to flee on foot but was quickly apprehended by Orinda police officers.

He has been identified as 23-year-old Hayward resident Brian Battles.

Battles was arrested on suspicion of residential burglary, possession of stolen property, evading a police officer and reckless driving and was taken to county jail in Martinez.
