Go green with your greenery - recycle your trees properly

We know, we know. Christmas just ended and we're already talking about getting rid of trees!

The Danville Express is giving a friendly head's up for those who are ready to part with their trees with several ways to recycle.

Waste Management Yard Trimmings/Green Waste Cart
Cut tree into lengths that will easily fit into cart and allow lid to completely close. Place tree pieces into cart anytime after holidays.

Remember, only clean trees are acceptable -- no flocking, tinsel or tree stands. Trees with flocking, tinsel or tree stands can call Waste Management at 837-3356 to arrange for collection at an additional pickup fee.

Curbside collection Jan. 7-11
Customers in Danville, Diablo, Alamo and Blackhawk should set trees at curb for pickup by a special truck on your service date. Cut trees over 10 feet into lengths of six feet or less.

The city of San Ramon will host a recycling drop-off event on Jan. 5 and Jan. 6 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Service Center Road at Rancho Park Loop (off Dougherty Road between East Branch Parkway and Old Ranch Road). Residents and businesses may drop off paper, cardboard, bottles, cans, scrap metal and green waste for free. Free compost is also given away.
Contact David Krueger at (925) 973-2824 or dkrueger@sanramon.ca.gov for more information.

The city and Waste Management remind residents to
put cardboard boxes, packing paper, Christmas cards and non-metallic wrapping paper in your recycling bins; metallic wrapping paper, tissue paper, ribbons and bows belong in the garbage bin. Food scraps and soiled paper products such as paper napkins, paper plates and paper cups can be recycled in the green waste can.
