The town of Danville announced the annual closure of the natural grass sports fields Monday afternoon. All natural grass fields maintained by the town and San Ramon Valley Unified School District, including the Canine Corral Dog Park at Hap Magee Ranch, will be closed beginning Dec. 3.
Maintenance Services Manager Jed Johnson said that the moratorium gives staff a chance to conduct routine maintenance and rest the fields, as well as the re-sodding of the large dog park.
Weather permitting, the fields are scheduled to re-open to public use on Saturday, March 1, 2013.

Posted by the dogfather, a resident of the Danville neighborhood, on Dec 10, 2012 at 7:12 am With all the mowing, and watering, and annual re-sodding of the dogpark, wouldn't it make sense to put down artificial turf? Hell, the dogs would be happy with the stuff that was deemed worn-out and replaced on the Sycamore Park playing fields.
Or would it make sense to have another DP elsewhere, to spread the use around? There are about 10,000 dogs in Danville alone, meaning that there are that many people who might make use of these facilities.
The Hap is a terrific facility -- time to rethink its overuse in a way that doesn't close it more often? Can I get a paws-up?
