Incumbents prove strong in Town Council election
Planning Commissioner Renee Morgan fills third seat

| Two long-time Danville Town Council members were re-elected in Tuesday's election, along with eight-year Planning Commissioner Renee Morgan. The three celebrated at Vice Mayor Robert Storer's home where they enthusiastically checked election results online.
"I couldn't be more proud to play a small part...in making this the greatest community to live in," said current Mayor Newell Arnerich, adding, "We still have a lot of work to do."
Arnerich was re-elected alongside 21-year Council Veteran Mike Doyle, the two have served as mayor multiple times and will continue Danville's current rotation in December, where Arnerich will be re-installed as mayor; he is currently filling out the term left by Candace Andersen when she became District 2 Supervisor. Morgan is serving her third term on the School Site Council and is involved in several town commissions.
"Danville is my passion, it is something I've worked hard for for the last eight years and it's nice to know that the town of Daville gets it," she said. "Danville truly means so much to me and I couldn't be happier."
Seven candidates made a bid for three seats on the Town Council, including retired Dryers executive Bob Nealis, who garnered 11.21 percent of the vote in fourth place. Doyle and Arnerich were neck and neck for most of the race, with Doyle pulling 24.10 percent of Danville voters and Arnerich receiving 23.44 percent. Morgan took in 5,926 votes, or 14.72 percent.
Current and new councilmembers will be installed during the town's annual mayoral installation in December. Doyle and Arnerich concluded four-year terms in office and will serve another four years; Morgan will begin her four-year term later this year. Posted by disenfranchised, a member of the Los Cerros Middle School community, on Nov 7, 2012 at 8:08 am Yes, the two incumbents and their endorsee with the false ballot designation have "a lot of work to do" to prevent Danville residents from getting their legal right to decide under Measure S whether Agricultural Open Space is forever lost to residential development.
First up, change the 2010 General Plan in the just-released draft 2030 General Plan to allow clustered residential development (called "P-1" zoning) on Agricultural land. Sure, Measure S requires a vote for such a change; sue us if you care that we are circumventing the law.
Next, release the SummerHill Homes' EIR which we will approve under the 2030 General Plan that we just passed. Isn't it great how we changed the 2010 General Plan to accomodate SummerHill's proposal after we spent the last year saying there was no need for a 2010 General Plan amendment to approve SummerHill's proposal? Whew-that was close! Have we driven away all those pesky opponents demanding their Measure S vote? Hope so. Presto, Ag. land (Magee ranch) is now residential!
All in a couple of months work for the Danville Town Council!
Future "work": 1. convert the 100-acre Ag. parcel in the El Capitan area to residential, continuing to flout Measure S.
2. convert the last 100-acre Ag. parcel of former Magee ranch land to residential, continuing to flout Measure S.
Isn't it great that the incumbents succeeded in keeping any new voices off the Council?
Yes, as the incumbents know well, public votes are "bad" for Danville and should be avoided at all costs. Thus, Danville's incumbent council members and their endorsee will do whatever it takes to make sure public votes never happen (flout Measure S); if one sneaks in (those darn elections officials in Martinez!) control the results using false ballot designations, illegally large signs, group campaign ads, and false statements to voters to confuse them into voting for us.

Please let the sarcastic remarks roll of your backs. A tsunami of fury does not help our wonderful community. You have all worked so hard to make this town so very special, and we are grateful.

The new plan allows developers to put dense residential development on Agricultural Open Space! If you don't agree with the Town's plan, COME TO THE PUBLIC HEARING BEFORE THE PLANNING COMMISSION on NOVEMBER 27TH AT 7:30 AT THE TOWN MEETING HALL. Also, email or write to Danville and express your disagreement with that plan. The public review period runs from October 22nd through December 5, 2012. The Danville Council will be voting on the General Plan in December or January.

If you voted, you weren't disenfranchised. Your candidates just lost.
If you have different ideas on development from some Council members, keep making your case. But, leave the pettiness out of it, please.

My hope is these people become more respectful toward the process and do not corner our elected council members while they are with their famies. The voters have chosen their representatives. Every development over the last twenty years has faced someone that is opposed. Hopefully, SOS will find a way to be positive and work together with the town.
