 | Mustang Soccer hosted the Devil Mountain Tournament over the holiday weekend with an impressive win from the under-11 Red Bulls. The Red Bulls won its final game against the Central Valley's Ajax United 3-0.
The Red Bulls went into their final game of the tournament on Sunday hoping for a big win to give them some momentum and confidence before the commencement of the official soccer season.
Offense from both teams at the afternoon game was intense with strikers and midfielders all trying to score a goal. There was constant hustle from Sebastian Scott to get a goal, but the defensive team from Ajax United kept that from becoming an early reality.
As the first half progressed, Red Bulls' reliable defense comprising of Maxwell Rettig, Cameron Roth, Holden Neach and Nathan Hensley kept Ajax United working hard, still without making a dent in the scoreboard. Red Bulls' goalkeeper Owen Ostler was fearless and saved every ball that came his way. Midfielders Blake Dillingham, Jack Schaeffer, Will Markey, Jaden Thompson, Cole Marshall and Connor Shay kept the game exciting as they did their job.
Five minutes from the close of the first half, Jaden Thompson received a pass and fired it to Connor Shay who shot it straight into the goal. This first goal seemed to ignite passion and renewed energy in the Red Bulls team as they came into the second half.
Jaden Thompson stole the ball and broke away, using his speed and control of the ball for a second goal. It wasn't long before Blake Dillingham was able to shoot a third goal into the net to seal the deal and a nice victory for the Red Bulls.
The match was fast and intense, won with full participation and effort by the entire team. Ajax United were worthy opponents and provided a very competitive game. Are you receiving Express, our free daily e-mail edition? See a sample and sign-up for Express.
